Obituary

Mr. Alden Rider 93, of Danvers, beloved husband of Ruth B, (Glover) Rider, died Thursday June 7, 2018 following a brief illness at Masconomet Nursing Home in Topsfield.

Born in Danvers, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Annie W. (Wilkins) Rider. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the former Holten High School, Class of 1942.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Rider had been employed with Merchants Warren Bank in Peabody for 27 years until the time of his retirement.

A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, Alden was well known throughout the community for his outgoing and friendly nature. Active in town and civic circles, Alden was a Danvers Town Meeting Member, a long time active member of Amity Mosaic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Danvers and a member of the Board of Directors of the Essex County Co-Operative of Topsfield. He was a longtime member of the First Church of Danvers, Congregational. He enjoyed spending his time bird watching and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He will be remembered for his out going nature and his ever-present smile. He was a devoted husband, father and brother who will be deeply missed.

Alden is survived by his loving wife Ruth Bell (Glover) Rider of Danvers, his son Timothy Rider of Danvers, his sister Elinor Sprenkel of South Lyon, Michigan and several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. He was the brother of the late John Rider and Elizabeth Rider.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte. 62) Danvers, on Tuesday June 12th at 11A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours, prior to the service, from 9 to11 A.M. Burial Wednesday in Holten St. Cemetery at 1P.M.
