Obituary

SALEM - Mrs. Helen (Holak) McGrane, 94, of Salem, beloved wife of the late John "Phil" McGrane with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, passed away peacefully, Sunday September 8, 2019 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation in Beverly.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Teofila (Malewska) Holak. She was raised and educated in Salem and attended the former St John the Baptist Polish School and was a graduate of Salem High School.

Mrs. McGrane had been employed by Parker Brothers in Salem and for a time at Daniel Lowe's and later was employed by Shaughnessy Hospital and eventually retired from Salem Hospital as a hospital aide following many years of dedicated service.

A loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Helen was truly devoted to her family. She provided a warm, loving, and caring home for her family. She loved to be surrounded by her family and was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

A life-long resident of the City of Salem, who grew up on Beckett St., Helen was proud of her heritage and her City. She enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City with her sisters-in-law Frances and Pat and her co-workers, playing Bingo and cooking, baking and playing cards. She was known as a kind and caring woman who loved to have fun and will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Helen is survived by her daughters; Patricia Shofner and her husband William of Gloucester and Mary Ellen Zocco and her husband Salvatore of Salem, her grandsons; David Zocco of Salem and Brian Zocco and his fiancé Vickie Pope of Raymond, NH, her great-granddaughter, Sarah Zocco, and her sister-in-law, Cecile McGrane of Berwick, ME and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edward Holak and Jane O'Connell.

Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Ledgewood and Care Dimensions for the care and concern they showed Helen during her stay.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral Service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common) Salem on Friday, Sept. 13th at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Thursday, Sept. 12th from 4 to 7 PM.
