Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Mary Ellen (Tierney) Dooling. She was raised and educated in Peabody and Danvers and was a graduate of St. John's Grammar School in Peabody and Bishop Fenwick High School, Class of 1968. She continued her education at Rivier College graduating in 1972 earning her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. During her college years, Mary Ellen was quite the thespian. She performed in many of the college theater productions throughout her college years and directed 12th Knight at UMass-Lowell.

Throughout her professional career she was also a licensed Social Worker.

With an outgoing and affable personality, Mary Ellen used her skills and coordinated and produced the Healthcare Marketplace throughout her 18-year career. She founded and ran many networking groups throughout the healthcare industry that are still in existence today.

Active in local political circles, she enjoyed supporting many local candidates especially her cousin Congressman John Tierney. A longtime resident of the City of Salem, Mary Ellen, enjoyed spending her time taking in live music shows and theater productions. Upon her retirement in 2016, she moved to Florida. She returned to the North Shore to be close to family and friends at the time of her diagnosis.

Mary Ellen endeared herself to many with her enormous smile and friendly conversation. She enjoyed making new friends and meeting new people. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

Mary Ellen wished to thank the staff and care givers of Care Dimensions for the kindness they have shown to her during her illness.

I was shocked and sad to read in the paper of Mary Ellen's departure of this life! I was a next door neighbor of the Dooling family and of the Tierney family who lived in the back of our house on Holten St. in Peabody.
I was a young child when Mary Ellen was born and later for my birthday, I received a doll which I named Mary Ellen after her. I have fond memories of all the family I send condolences in a special way to
Anne Marie ! May god Blessings be with you and may Mary Ellen rest in God's Presence ! Sister Kathleen Therese SND

Mary Ellen and I met at a pub in Cambridge in the mid-70's, on that night a friend of mine said that my sister had arrived (I don't have a sister) and turned to see nearly a mirror image, we got a laugh out of it and became fast friends. She was living in Brookline at the time and hosted fabulous parties always with a theme. The following summer we shared a summer house in Hyannis on weekends, that was a fun summer full of many great memories. I moved to California over 30 year ago, I saw her once during a visit home. I am so sorry to hear that she passed so young, but clearly had a huge fan club. May she R.I.P and may God hold her in the palm of his hand.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Lynne & Gerry and her family. I had a great visit with Mary Ellen when she came back up to MA and moved in with her best friend and my cousins Lynn and Gerry. It was a good visit...we talked, laughed and ate. She was doing whatever she wanted to do and was in control.

Mary Ellen was a great person and would do anything for you! She will be missed. My heart goes out to Lynn and Gerry.

May you rest in peace Mary Ellen. Blessings & Love, Lisa Santarpio

I'm a former neighbor of Mary Ellen's and her family from Danvers. Lovely person and so full of life. I met Mary just recently about a month in the Christmas Tree Shop in Lynnfield she was with her friend Jerry. She told me of her illness and just how severe it was, I was in shock as she looked wonderful I gave her many, many hugs and love, she was very up and jovial. God bless you my dear

My sincerest sympathies and prayers to friends and family. I was one of Mary Ellen's fellow sociology majors at Rivier many years ago. She was certainly a lovely lady.

It was a joy for me to visit MaryEllen for her Reiki treatments. I could tell the moment I met her that anyone who was lucky enough to have shared her life had been given a true gift. God must have needed a very special Angel the day he took Maryellen home. My condolences to all that grieve her passing. Care Dimensions Volunteer

My cousin first and family, but for longer as an adult my friend who graciously shared her passions, opened her heart to me and my husband, Eric with whom we had many long nights chatting, laughing, and crying at the joy and sorrows and pains in life and yet forging a bond that I will always draw on to learn and grow from the challenges life gives us. She shared her wonderful community of friends with us and built her own unique version of family that cannot be denied as truly powerful and wonderful. I hope she is 'dancing in the streets' !!!!

Mary Ellen was a lovely, lovely lady who touched the lives of many in such wonderful, giving ways. She packed more good living in her too-brief life than most of us! I hope that she is having a terrific time meeting up with family and friends, especially our mutual friend, Chris Tufts Beveridge, who also left us too soon. May they be having lots of giggles in Heaven as they did at their get-togethers here!
