DANVERS - The heartbroken family of Joseph D. Norris announces his passing on October 18, 2017. His parents, Dennis and Marie (Ruggeri) Norris of Danvers, along with Joe's younger sisters, Kathy and Kim Norris of Danvers know the love he had for his family, relatives and friends. Joe wanted to live, but his long battle with addiction triumphed. Triumphed over his decision-making, AA meetings, counseling classes, and CAB hospitalizations, but Joe's spirit and faith remained. There will always be a burning light in our hearts when remembering Joe.

Joe was a 1986 graduate of Danvers High School and attended the University of Lowell. Joe had many interests. He was a big and loyal fan of all the Boston sports teams, as well as college football games, fishing, and golf. He was co-captain of his high school golf team and played for the University of Lowell as a freshman. He also served in the Massachusetts National Guard.

Joe's work history was as extensive as his interests. He had experience cooking in area restaurants, painting, landscaping and tree work. The position he felt that he was making a difference was working with troubled boys to support them in gaining self-worth and confidence. It was a position that brought out Joe's intrinsic qualities of empathy and thoughtful respect for others. How ironic that Joe could help others, but struggled to help himself. Joe was always the go-to guy for the family, co-workers, friends, and neighbors. So many words come to mind when thinking of Joe- kind, polite and a gentleman. A new word has been added- peace. Joe's at peace and home with many of his predeceased relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and sisters, Joe is survived by his Uncle Paul and his wife Pat Ruggeri of Rhode Island, his Uncle Socrates Vrattos of West Roxbury, his Aunt Joanne Ruggeri and her husband Steve Swallow of Alaska, his Aunt Mariellen Norris of Charlestown, his Uncle Brian Norris and his wife Betsy of Danvers, and his Aunt Sandra Ruggeri of Peabody. Joe is also survived by his cousins Chris, Alex and Christina Ruggeri. Loving grandson of the late Frank and Mary (Carnevale) Ruggeri of Beverly and the late Joseph and Alyce (Dylengowski) of Salem. Loving nephew of his predeceased dear aunts and uncle: Linda Norris, Susan Vrattos, and John Ruggeri.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Friday, Oct. 27th at 9:15 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass in St. Richard Church, Forest St., Danvers, at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in North Beverly Cemetery, Beverly. Visiting hours Thursday, October 26th from 3 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Joseph's memory to CAB (Center of Addictive Behavior), 111 Middleton Road, Danvers, MA 01923. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit
