Offering our sincere condolences. May the God of love comfort your heart and make you firm in your time of grief. 2 Thessalonians 2:16,17.

The Doonan family was very saddened to hear of Ms. Bertram's sudden passing. Our three children Patrick, Christine, and Gregory all had her for English during their years at Peabody High School in the 2000 decade. She was the gold standard when it came to her craft. She challenged her students to stretch themselves to be the best they could be, prepared our own kids well for the reading, writing, and critical thinking rigors of college and the working world, and instilled in them the desire to never stop learning. The two of us always enjoyed talking with her at parent-teacher conferences; her love for teaching and her students radiated brightly. We have since read how Ms. Bertram was a pillar of her Beverly community in varied pursuits beyond Peabody High; her death is obviously being mourned by many.
Our deepest sympathies to all of Ms. Bertram's family, work colleagues, and friends.

Dean and Rebecca, so sorry for your loss. I know weve never met, but hopefully Lawrie shared some of our childhood memories of us with you. She was my best friend and I hurt so bad for her when her mom died, and then I had to move in the summer of 73 it was hard on us both. We had so many fun times and she had a flare for life and fashion and creativity and fun. I had hoped to meet you in July and spend time with my friend. Im just heartbroken for me(selfishly) but for both of you. I can sense her life was so happy and fulfilled with you in it. Her smile, her goodness and love will live on in our hearts and memories always. May God bless you all and may His loving grace be with you.

I have struggled the last couple days trying to write somethings as the words just can't come out. I was so lucky to have known Lawrie as a teacher and as a friend in our personal lives. The things she taught me in both the classroom and outside of school is endless and will forever be with me. She changed me to be a better person, nothing less then best was what she pushed us all to be. As students, she taught a tough class, but we all came out stronger, better educated, better people and so much more. Lawrie was full of life, every day, her energy and passion glowed from her and spread to others. The world is dimmer without you, I really admired you. I hope I didn't make too many grammatical mistakes. Dean, if there is anything at all that I can do, please do not hesitate to reach out at any time. Alicia MacMillan (formally Buchanan)

Lawrie, Still cannot believe we will longer be able to keep reminiscing our childhood stories over and over but laughing hysterically like it's the first time. I remember anxiously waiting for you to arrive in The Cove for the summer. Those were the best days of our lives! From those summer months our friendship continued to adulthood. We've had so many wonderful memories over our 50 year friendship. You are special and I will miss you more than you know. Now you are with your mom, dad, grammy, and my mom playing 45...

Lawie, I am missing you so much already, and am so sad that I am finally moving to Beverly and I wouldn't have you there to share a glass of wine with in my new home, thank you for being the wonderful godmother you were to Andrea, and to opening up your home and heart to us every Christmas. Thank you for over almost 28 years of friendship. Rest in peace Lawrie

Ms. Bertram, you were so influential throughout my education beyond your class. You made your students work so diligently, but also made us laugh every day with your sharp wit. Thank you for showing me what a teacher should be. I will forever be thankful for your encouragement. Sending my best to her family and friends during this difficult time. She was an incredible, strong woman.

Lawrie was an outstanding educator that encouraged her students both to challenge themselves and to find joy and inspiration in literature. I have only fond memories of my time learning from her in the latter years of my PVMHS career. She was one f the best. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. God bless.

I am so very deeply saddened by Lawrie's sudden and unexpected passing . Getting to know her brought so much joy to our lives . We looked forward to those summer visits at Gilbert's Cove and seeing Lawrie, Dean and Rebecca in our Church at St Joseph's . Greg and I were excited to get to spend more time with Lawrie, Dean and Rebecca after retirement . Her obituary says it all . Greg and I felt we had a lot in common with Dean and Lawrie us also being teachers and having taught Lawrie's niece and nephew . We are deeply saddened and send our love to Dean and Rebecca and Scott and Doug and her nieces and nephews . Marion and Greg Mac Donald Weymouth NS .

You. Will be missed by your staff, students and all that knew you!

I hope everyone knows that Lawrie is looking down and correcting all of these posts.
Current and future students have lost the chance to have one of the best in education as a teacher. It was an honor to have her as a colleague and as a friend. She gave me a place to live and for that I had and continue to have 4 cats. She would always say I needed another one. One time she went to take off on her boke and I said "ride safe". She turned and said "safely" and rode off. A lesson I have never forgotten and have said correctly ever since.
Dean, I'm glad she found you.

Dear Dean, I am so very sorry for your loss. The obituary truly captured Lawrie's spirit. She was an exceptional person. When I first joined the BMPAA board I admit I was a bit intimidated by her. She was so beautiful, smart, talented, and always wore the most fabulous outfits. But she was also so down to earth and made me feel so welcome when I'd go to your house for BMPAA holiday parties. She was so gracious. And it was so clear to me how much you both loved one another and Rebecca. Lawrie will be missed by so many. And the world feels a little less colorful without her in it.

God bless you, and rest in peace, dear Lawrie. She was a former co-worker of mine, an extremely smart, energetic go-getter who knew who she was, never afraid to stand up for her principles and ideals, a wonderful role model. Boy, could she dance, and now she is dancing with Jesus, praise God!

Ms. Bertram was one of the best teachers I've ever had. Her respect and esteem for her students was evident in everything she did, and her commitment to high standards - and her insistence that every single one of her students could, and should, aim high - was second to none. I know I wouldn't be where I am today if not for her, and I'm sure hundreds (if not thousands) of my fellow alums can say the same. Thank you for everything you've done, Ms. Bertram. You've changed so many lives for the better, and you and your work will never be forgotten.
