DANVERS – Mrs. Theresa J. (LeBlanc) Gray 91, of Danvers, died peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Grace (Theriault) LeBlanc. Beloved sister of the late Grace Aubertin. She was raised and educated in Salem. She was a graduate of the former St. Chrétienne's Academy. She continued her education at Regis College earning her Bachelor's Degree in English as a member of the Class of 1950.

Upon earning her degree, Theresa began a long and rewarding career in education. Beginning with her student teaching in the Haverhill Public School System, she would matriculate to the City of Salem, Public School System and spend over 30 years creating an educational foundation for the youth of Salem. She taught third grade at the Saltonstall School for many years and then moved to the Bates School until the time of her retirement. She loved her profession and received endless fulfillment from helping her students mature, grow and achieve academic and life goals. She made a positive impression on her students and left an enduring mark on all in her charge.

A woman devoted to her family and faith; Theresa was a daily communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers. She enjoyed spending time at many of the church's activities and events. She appreciated her church family and made many friends through the commonality of a deep faith in God. She was also a volunteer with the Women's Friend Society of Salem which provides affordable housing for women.

Theresa lived in her house well into her 91st year and took great pride in her home; especially her gardens. She would spend countless hours daily pruning, weeding and planting. It brought her peace and she loved to share the joy of nature with others. Education was such a central part of her life; a lifelong learner, she took French classes well into her 80s and enjoyed going to lectures at Hamilton Hall. Theresa loved to read and passed on her passion for higher education to her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her family and of all her loved one's accomplishments. She will be remembered for her commitment to her family, her devout faith in God, her love of gardening, her enthusiasm for higher learning and her beautiful and ever-present smile.

Theresa is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Phelan and her husband Daniel of Hampton, N.H. and Janet Gustafson and her husband Todd of Newbury, her grandchildren, Jack, Hannah and Sam; her nephews, including Marc Aubertin who was especially close and many dear lifelong friends and neighbors.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Janet,Elizabeth and families, I was so sorry to learn of Terry's passing. She was a most beautiful, loving, and giving person and will be sorely missed. I taught with Terry for many years, at the Saltonstall and Bates schools. She helped me and was a wonderful example of what a superb teacher should be. She loved all her children [ 3rd graders ] and she and I worked together with 3rd grade for some years. It became my favorite grade also. She always had a smile on her face and welcomed all, with open heart and mind. After we retired she kept us together by meeting at Bertini's every year. I will always remember and cherish those school days when we were all together. We will keep Terry and your families and her grandchildren, i our thoughts and prayers. God bless and keep you all. You had a great mom!
