SALEM – Mrs. Mary (Spellman) Schaejbe, 86 of Salem, beloved wife of David C. Schaejbe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly surrounded by family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. Spellman and Iva H. (Lewis) (Spellman) Labonte. Raised and educated in Salem, she was a graduate of Salem Commercial High School, class of 1952.

A loving and devoted, wife, mother and grandmother, Mary focused on providing a warm and loving home for her family. She was employed for many years by the United Fund of the North Shore, prior to having a family.

Together, Mary and David enjoyed the camaraderie of couples bowling leagues on the North Shore which they competed in for nearly 25 years. Mary was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing at Salem Country Club. She was also a member at the Old Salem Greens and looked forward to her golfing trips to Bermuda. She had a love for baked goods, especially anything with chocolate and could tell you about any bakeshop along the North Shore. She was a talented baker herself and will be fondly remembered for her amazing coffee cakes and pudding pies. Her love for her family was paramount, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband David of Salem, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage; Mary is survived by her daughter, Leann Schaejbe of Peabody, her sons; Edward P. Schaejbe and his wife Mary of Salem, D. Christopher Schaejbe and his fiancé Maria Kouzoukas of Vernon Hills, IL and Douglas W. Schaejbe and his husband Scott Beane of Bourne, her 8 grandchildren; Amanda Canty, Lauren Schaejbe, Wesley Schaejbe, Cael Schaejbe, Trace Schaejbe, Talia Smaller, Sydni Smaller and Sophia Kouzoukas, 2 great grandchildren, Owen and Charlotte Canty, her brother, Richard Spellman and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William Spellman, Frances Leroux Benway, James Spellman, Margaret Goodwin, Dorothy Macaskill and Elizabeth Picariello.
