SALEM-Mrs. Charlotte I. (Splaine) Gallo, 97, of Salem, beloved wife of the late James J. Gallo, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Charlotte (Johnson) Splaine. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School.

Mrs. Gallo had been employed by New England Telephone Company as an Operator for several years where she made lifelong friends, who continued to meet every week for over 60 years, where she enjoyed the comradery and support of her friends. She later became a cook at the Salem High School cafeteria until the time of her retirement.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Charlotte always put her family first. She was passionate about providing a warm and loving home for her family and was truly proud and happiest when surrounded by them.

A gifted seamstress and embroiderer, Charlotte created many wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses and clothes for family and friends that would challenge designer quality. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed cooking for her family. Charlotte had a kind and generous nature, was quick to lend a hand and could always be counted on to lend support and guidance. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Surviving Charlotte is her daughter, Nancy Gallo of Salem, her grandson, Alex Lockhard of Salem, her sisters, Joan Davis of Baltimore, MD and Barbara Byrne of Beverly. She was also the mother of the late Mary Ann Gallo, Richard Gallo and Jamie Gallo and grandmother of the late Adam Albanese.
