DANVERS – Mr. A. Donald Norwood aged 87, of Danvers, beloved husband of Marilyn Norwood, passed away peacefully on July 29 at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Albert Norwood and the late Louise Harnett Norwood Erickson. Donald was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School and attended the Franklin Institute. His career spanned 42 years at the Polaroid Corporation, where he worked with Dr. Edwin Land on the first instant color film for the SX-70 Polaroid camera.

Donald was a noted speed-skater and bicycle racer. He won the Eastern Seaboard Speed-Skating USA championship in 1956, and he was the 1955 &1957 New England Time Trial Bicycle champion. He enjoyed athletics his entire life, especially the winter Olympics.

Mr. Norwood was a member of the Polaroid Retirees Association, the Lake Shore Park Association of Gilford NH, the Amateur Skating Union of the USA, and was a long-time member of All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore in Danvers.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Norwood of Danvers, his daughter Kristin A. Norwood and her husband Lowell Gilbert, his grandson Joshua, his son Erik Norwood, and his sister Karen Sibbalds.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral services are private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers.
