SALEM- Atty. Richard E. Daly, 91, beloved husband of the late Louise B. (McCarthy) Daly, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, died peacefully Sunday, February 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Salem on December 22, 1924, he was the son of John F. Daly and Jennie (Smith) Daly. After attending St. Joseph's School in Salem, MA, he graduated from St. John's Prep. Later he graduated from both Boston College (1951) and Boston College Law School (1960), becoming a Double Eagle, a moniker that he was very proud of.

During WWII Richard served his country in the army tank corps based at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He sustained injuries and was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.

In 1973 Richard expanded his part-time private law practice into a very successful full time practice in Salem MA, maintaining his licensed law status for over fifty-five years. He was a member of the Salem, Essex County, and Massachusetts Bar Associations. Richard was also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

During his lifetime Richard actively participated in many civic and charitable organizations. He was President of United Cerebral Palsy, The Holy Name Society, and the Boston College Alumni Association of the North Shore.

With his wife Louise he dedicated himself to raising 10 children and entertaining 25 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a large extended family. He enjoyed vacations in Maine, cookouts, boating, the company of his pug, Oscar, and family reunions. He also relished BC football and held season tickets for over fifty years.
His home was the center of continuous family activities, Christmas traditions, and holiday get-togethers.
