SALEM- Mrs. Doris June (Corbett) O'Brien 94 of Salem, beloved wife of the late Paul Anthony O'Brien M.D., died Monday, April 11th, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her family.

Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Rose Helena (Downey) Corbett. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1938. She continued her education at Salem Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her diploma as a Registered Nurse with the class of 1942. She furthered her education at Boston University Graduating with the class of 1944 earning her degree in Education.

Mrs. O'Brien had been employed as a Nursing Supervisor in the Obstetrical Department at Salem Hospital until the time of her marriage. In later years she returned to her profession as the Director of Nursing at Mt. Pleasant Hospital in Lynn for 5 years until the time of her retirement.

A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Doris was an outgoing person who loved to be on the go and socialize with family and friends. She was the Recording Secretary for the Assumption Guild, she was a member of the Essex South District Medical Society Auxiliary, where she served as the Corresponding Secretary. She was a long time member and Treasurer of the St. Benedicts Guild of Bishop Fenwick High School and served on the Board of Directors at the Brook House for Aged Women in Salem.

Doris made many lifelong friends and especially enjoyed the Survivors Club, which was the 4 original members of her graduating class from Salem Hospital School of Nursing who met once a month for lunch for over 70 years. She was a voracious reader, an expert knitter and loved to play Bridge weekly with her friends. Yet above all else family was paramount in Doris' life. She was happiest in times spent with her loved ones. She will be deeply missed.

Doris is survived by her children, Leslie O'Brien of Haverhill, Alison O'Brien of Salem, Paul Scott O'Brien of Salem and Marcia O'Brien DeCota of Thornton, N.H., her grandchildren, Kendra Lauria and her husband Antone of Peabody and Michael DeCota of Thornton, N.H., her great grandson, Anthony Lauria and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late J. Carrol Corbett.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Thursday, April 14th at 9:15 A.M. followed by her funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Marblehead. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 13th from 4 to 7 P.M.
