DANVERS- Mr. Lorne R. Hersey 88, of Danvers, beloved husband of Jean M. (Russell) Hersey, died, Sunday, December 18th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Elden Reid and H. Gertrude (Ferguson) Hersey. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the former Holten High School of Danvers.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Hersey was an automotive technician by trade and had been employed with the former Means Chevrolet and O'Keefe Chevrolet both of Ipswich until the time of his retirement.

A lifelong resident of the Town of Danvers, Lorne was an active member and Deacon of the Maple Street Congregational Church. He was a member of the Maple Street Church Men's Club and volunteered for many years at the Danvers People to People Food Pantry. Lorne loved to work outside in his garden and yard and he was famous for his raised tomatoes. He treasured the company of his grandchildren and was ultimately proud of all their accomplishments. He was devoted to his wife and family and will be deeply missed.

Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Jean M. (Russell) Hersey of Danvers, his daughter, Sandra Walsh and her husband Stephen of Merrimac, his son, Dana Hersey of Colchester, CT, his grandchildren, Sean and Kaylene Hersey and Matthew and Joshua Walsh and Gavin Winchell, his sisters, Marjorie Delaney of North Andover, Roberta Bruce and her husband Kenneth of New Hampshire, Natalie Wood and her husband Charles of N.H. and Audrey Murphy and her husband William of Texas, his brothers, W. Kenneth Hersey and his wife Eleanor of Danvers and Richard Hersey and his wife Ellen of Freemont, N.H. and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frances Hersey and father-in-law of the late Kimberly Hersey.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service which will be held in the Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple St., Danvers, Wednesday, December 28th at 11 A.M. Internment following in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. As requested visiting hours omitted. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers.
