SALEM - Mrs. Mary Irene "Mema" (Richards) Royal, 94, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Menelaos Royal, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at Grosvenor Park Health Center in Salem, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Ann (Richard) Richards. She was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem Public Schools.

Mrs. Royal had been employed with CBS Hytron for several years and more recently had worked at E.G.& G. for 20 years until the time of her retirement.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary loved to take care of her family. Her caring spirit extended to others in need. Mary was a lifelong knitter who knitted over 1000 hats for premature infants at Beverly Hospital; she also took great pleasure making many sweaters over the years for her family. She was very proud of her craft, which she passed on to her daughters, who have continued her legacy of knitting & volunteerism. She will be deeply missed.

A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, Mary was an avid bingo player and enjoyed reading in her spare time.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Marlene Hincman and her husband Charles Sr. of Salem and Mary Ann "Chickie" Warner and her husband John of Beverly, her three grandchildren, Heidi Rivers and her husband Keith of Beverly, Julie Hutchins and her husband Gary of Beverly and Charles Hincman Jr. of Salem, her great-grandson, Jack Rivers, her brother, Robert Richards of CA and several nieces and nephews. She was also the grandmother of the late Deborah Hincman-Kutsumitis.

Mary's family would like to thank the staff of Grosvenor Park and Care Dimensions for the kind care they extended to her.
