SALEM- Mr. William Francis Shea, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 24, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury with family by his side.
Born on June 3, 1924 to Jeremiah and Anna (Hennessey) Shea, from Ireland, he was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem Schools.
An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Shea served as a gunner's mate in the United States Navy during World War II. He saw live action in both the Pacific and European theatres; he took great pride in this and often shared numerous stories. He was awarded many medals and honors for his service and valor.

During his long career, he employed hundreds of local roofers, many of whom later started their own roofing companies throughout the North Shore. He was very well respected and highly regarded among his peers and colleagues in the roofing industry.
He was a member of the American Legion Herman A Spear Post #331 in Beverly and a former member of the Beverly Elks Lodge #1309.
